Office of the Principal
Our principal, Rebecca Gratz joined DISHS in the 2023-2024 school year. She is an educator with over 25 years of experience. Principal Gratz spent her early career as an environmental educator in New York City before attending graduate school, earning her Master’s in Environmental Management and teaching certification at Yale University. Over the next 22 years, Principal Gratz worked as a teacher, teacher-leader, professional development coordinator, and principal at the Sound School in New Haven, CT. Her years of experience at an aquaculture and agriculture school, along with her years as an environmental and outdoor educator, shape Ms. Gratz’s approach to teaching and learning. A focus on place-based, project-based, and experiential learning shape Principal Gratz’s approach and philosophy which she is sharing with the team at DISHS. After 22 years in Public School, Ms. Gratz worked for three years in Independent Schools, most recently as Assistant Head of School at George Stevens Academy in Blue Hill. She is thrilled to be part of the DISHS community and is excited about all that is possible at this small but mighty school.
